Delicious and very tempting chana dal salad is protein rich, nutritious and very tasty.
To make this colourful and attractive chana dal salad, I have combined colourful veggies along with chana dal and for the crunch topped it with peanuts and pumpkin seeds and finally garnished it with fresh coriander leaves.
Ingredients for 2 servings
- 1/4 cup chana dal
- 1/4 cup coarsely crushed roasted peanuts
- 1 tbsp roasted pumpkin seeds
- 1 finely chopped tomato
- 1 finely chopped small cucumber
- 1 grated carrot
- 3 tbsp grated raw mango
- 1 tbsp grated ginger
- 1 finely chopped green chili (optional)
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- ½ tsp mustard seeds
- ½ tsp black pepper powder
- 8 to 10 curry leaves
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnishing
- Salt according to taste
- Lime juice as required

Procedure to make chana dal salad
- Soak chana dal for ½ hour and pressure cook it for 2 to 3 whistles, don’t overcook chana dal.
- Let dal cool completely, drain off the excess water and keep it aside. ( use dal water to knead the flour for roti or add it to soup or curry)
- In a bowl take cooked chana dal, chopped tomato,chopped cucumber,grated carrot,grated raw mango. Grated ginger, finally chopped green chili,salt, pepper powder and squeeze lemon juice and mix it properly.
- Heat oil in a tadka pan, add cumin seeds and mustard seeds, as seed sizzles add curry leaves and roast it for a few seconds and pour tadka over salad, mix it.
- Transfer salad to an attractive bowl, top it with roasted peanuts and pumpkin seeds.
- Garnish salad with fresh coriander leaves.
