Chana dal salad

Delicious and very tempting chana dal salad is protein rich, nutritious and very tasty.

To make this colourful and attractive chana dal salad, I have combined colourful veggies along with chana dal and for the crunch topped it with peanuts and pumpkin seeds and finally garnished it with fresh coriander leaves.

Ingredients for 2 servings

  • 1/4  cup chana dal
  • 1/4  cup coarsely crushed roasted peanuts
  • 1 tbsp roasted pumpkin seeds
  • 1 finely chopped tomato
  • 1 finely chopped small cucumber
  • 1 grated carrot
  • 3 tbsp grated raw mango
  • 1 tbsp grated ginger
  • 1 finely chopped green chili (optional)
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds 
  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • ½ tsp black pepper powder
  • 8 to 10 curry leaves
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnishing
  • Salt according to taste
  • Lime juice as required

Procedure to make chana dal salad 

  • Soak chana dal for ½ hour and pressure cook it for 2 to 3 whistles, don’t overcook  chana dal.
  • Let dal cool completely, drain off the excess water and keep it aside. ( use dal water to knead the flour for roti or add it to soup or curry)
  • In a bowl take cooked chana dal, chopped tomato,chopped cucumber,grated carrot,grated raw mango. Grated ginger, finally chopped green chili,salt, pepper powder and squeeze lemon juice and mix it properly.
  • Heat oil in a tadka pan, add cumin seeds and mustard seeds, as seed sizzles add curry leaves and roast it for a few seconds and pour tadka over salad, mix it.
  • Transfer salad to an attractive bowl, top it with roasted peanuts and pumpkin seeds.
  • Garnish salad with fresh coriander leaves.
  • Healthy and tasty protein rich Chana dal salad is ready to serve.
