Shakarkandi Ki Chat

Equipment

  • Pessure cooker
  • Kadhai / Wok

Ingredients

  • 250 gm Shakarkand (sweet potato) 

  • ½  cup Peanuts (mungfali)  2 tbsp Desi ghee(clarified butter) 
  •  2  tbsp  Desi ghee(clarified butter)
  • ½  tsp  Jeera (cumin seeds)  
  • 1/4 
    tsp  Kali mirch (black pepper powder) 
  •  Hari mirch (green chilli)  
  • Sendha namak (rock salt)    According to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves   For garnishing  
  • Lime juice  As required

Instructions

Preparation

  • Wash shakarkandi under running water.



  • Heat one teaspoon desi ghee in a pressure cooker, put shakarkandi, saute it.
  • Add 2 tbsp water, close the lid and pressure cook shakarkandi for one whistle.(cooking shakarkand this way gives it a nice “roasting” flavour). Once shakarkandi cools down, peel it and cut into small pieces.
  • Dry roast peanuts and dehusk them, and then crush them..
  • Finely chop green chillies and fresh coriander leaves.

Method

  • Heat desi ghee in a heavy bottom kadhai.


  • Put jeera, when it sizzles, lower the flame, add finely chopped green chillies and saute it for a few seconds.
  • Now put cooked shakarkandi, sprinkle salt, pepper powder and crushed peanuts, mix properly and cook for one minutes.
  • Switch off the flame, add coriander leaves and squeeze lemon juice and mix well.
  • Shakarkandi ki chaat is ready to serve.
