Equipment

  • Kadhai / Wok
  • Spatula 
  • Grater
  • Knife

Ingredients

  • 1 tea cup Roasted chana dal
  • 1 tea cup Roasted peanut
  • 1 tea cup Roasted sesame seeds
  • 1 tea cup Chopped dry coconut
  • 1 tea cup Chopped jaggery

Additional Dry Fruits

  • ½ tea cup Cashew nuts
  • ½ tea cup Walnuts
  • ½ tea cup Raisins 
  • ½ tea cup Almonds 

Instructions

Preparation

  • Grate outer brown part of dry coconut and chop it into small pieces, in a heavy bottom kadhai roast coconut pieces until warm.


  • Dry roast roasted chana dal until warm.




  • Dry roast sesame seeds till it starts to crackle.


  • Dry roast peanuts, cool it and remove the skin.


  • Dry roast cashew nuts, almonds and walnuts until warm and chop it into small pieces.


  • Cut jaggery into small pieces.


Preparation

  • Once all the roasted ingredients cool completely mix everything in a bowl. Karnataka style Ellu bella is ready to celebrate makar sankranti.

Notes

  • It's not necessary to remove brown part from dry coconut but, if you want, you can grate and remove it.
  • Increase or decrease the ingredients as per your choice.
