Chatpata Singhada – Navratri Special

The festive season is here! So I am sharing with you a recipe which you should definitely try during Navratri. This dish is well suited for those fasting and those who want to feast on something tasty!

Singhada is called water  chestnut in English. It is very nutritious and healthy with natural anti-oxidants. It is fat-free and a popular fruit that can be eaten raw or boiled. Singhada atta / flour is made after drying the fruit and then grinding it. Many delicious dishes are made with Singhada atta during fasts.

Ingredients: 

Peeled Singhada    – 250gm
Roasted  ground nuts  – 3tbsp
Pepper  Powder       – 1/4tsp
Jeera                          – 1/4tsp
Ghee                           – 1tsp
Green chillies            – 2
Lemon                         – 1/2
Curry leaves              – few
Sendha namak (rock salt) according  to taste
Coriander leaves for garnishing.

Method:

1. Boil  singhada. Peel and cut into small  pieces.
2. Heat ghee  in pan and add jeera. When  it turns  light brown,  add chopped  chilies and curry leaves.
3. Now  add Singhada, crushed ground nuts, salt and pepper powder mix and cook for 3 to 4  minutes. Turn off  the stove and add lemon juice. Mix everything well.

4. Dish out and garnish it with freshly chopped coriander  leaves.
